Winter is truly upon us: the days are shorter, the temperatures are colder and the weather is harsher. Let’s just say it’s the time of the year when staying inside is mostly justified and many people lack the motivation to exercise or partake in any physical activities. MAINTAIN PROPER DIET AND EXERCISE ROUTINES
Cold temperatures can make it difficult to stick to a gym routine or maintain a healthy diet. Often enough, we end up resorting to snack foods and skipping our workouts altogether. Whether it’s the sick child at home or the sneezing person next to you on your way to work, the chance to catch or pass on a cold virus is high.
Our suggestion: why not do a home workout instead of going to the gym? The internet offers a plethora of free exercises that don’t require any weights and can easily be done from the comfort of your home. Might as well make the most of it! Also, to maintain your diet, prepare a protein-rich brekky to keep your energy levels and spirit up throughout the day. And have lots of low-fat and healthy snacks readily available to control those carb cravings that we all know too well!
WASH YOUR HANDS REGULARLY
It may sound trivial to some but washing your hands frequently and throughout the day is an absolute must-do when wanting to stay healthy during the winter season. There’s nothing worse than having to cram into a crowded train in the morning and holding on to a warm pre-used bar that has all sorts of bacteria attached to it. Wash your hands as soon as possible and may we add, definitely before you shake your bosses’ hand! By doing so, you ensure that your immune system is always protected and you’re safe from developing the flu or cold.
REAP THE BENEFITS OF SLEEPING LONGER
Feeling well-rested in the morning is a luxury not many possess. Often long work days and study consume big portions of our day, leaving only few hours to sleep and relax. Therefore, organise your week in advance and make sure to unwind in the evening before you go to bed.
